Excellence in Education Award

Purpose of the Award: To recognize a member for excellence in teaching. The person should advance the science of nursing through clarifying, refining, and/or expanding the knowledge base of nursing.

Criteria

The candidate must be an active member, in good standing, of Sigma Theta Tau, Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large. The candidate must spend a minimum of 60% of his/her time in teaching and demonstrate at least three (3) of the following characteristics:

  1. Utilizes creative approaches in teaching.
  2. Possesses clinical expertise & attributes of a clinical scholar.
  3. Advances the scope & practice of nursing.
  4. Serves as a mentor/preceptor & inspires peer's practice of nursing.
  5. Influences the practice of nursing through presentation or publication.
  6. Enhances the image of nursing.
  7. Incorporates current research & theory into the educational process.
  8. Attains national certification in area of clinical expertise.

Procedure

Nomination for the award must be made by a member of Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large. The letter of nomination must be submitted to the Awards Committee Chairperson by the March 1 deadline. The nominating letter shall include the following information:

  1. Name of nominee.
  2. Present position.
  3. Area of leadership & expertise.
  4. Other honors/recognition received.
  5. Membership & participation in professional organizations.
  6. Statement documenting how candidate has met three or more of identified criteria

The nomination must be endorsed by two (2) other supporting letters that attest to achievement of the criteria identified in the letter of nomination. Support letters may be written by persons other than members of Sigma Theta Tau.

Also, please include the nominee's curriculum vita or resume.

Award Recipient

The decision regarding the recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award will be made by the Awards Committee.

The recipient will be recognized at the Annual Membership Meeting of Beta-Delta Chapter-At-Large in April and be presented with a plaque and monetary reward

The deadline for submission of nominations is March 1. Mail letter of nomination, supporting letters and nominee's curriculum vita or resume to:
