Excellence in Leadership Award

Purpose of the Award: To recognize a member for excellence in leadership.

Criteria

The candidate must be an active member of Sigma Theta Tau, Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large. The candidate must spend a minimum of 60% of his/her time in a leadership/management role and demonstrate at least three (3) of the following characteristics:

  1. Demonstrates excellence in leadership.
  2. Utilizes visionary and innovative approaches in leadership/management.
  3. Influences the professional practice of nursing and the public's image of nursing through excellence in leadership.
  4. Participates in the development of nursing leaders by serving a mentor/preceptor.
  5. Receives local, national and/or international recognition as a nursing leader in education, practice, administration, and/or research.
  6. Promotes a theory/research base for nursing leadership.
 Procedure

Nomination for the award must be made by a member of Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large. The letter of nomination must be submitted to the Awards Committee Chairperson by the March 1 deadline. The nominating letter shall include the following information:

  1. Name of nominee.
  2. Present position.
  3. Area of leadership & expertise.
  4. Other honors/recognition received.
  5. Membership & participation in professional organizations.
  6. Statement documenting how candidate has met three or more of identified criteria.

The nomination must be endorsed by two (2) other supporting letters that attest to achievement of the criteria identified in the letter of nomination. Support letters may be written by persons other than members of Sigma Theta Tau.

Also, please include the nominee's curriculum vita or resume.

Award Recipient

The decision regarding the recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award will be made by the Awards Committee.

The recipient will be recognized at the Annual Membership Meeting of Beta-Delta Chapter-At-Large in April and presented with a plaque and monetary reward.

The deadline for submission of nominations is March 1. Mail letter of nomination, supporting letters and nominee's curriculum vita or resume to:
