Criteria

The candidate must be an active member of the Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large and administer direct patient care a minimum of 24 hours per week.  The candidate must demonstrate three of the following characteristics:

1. Develops creative approaches to nursing practice that contribute to quality patient care.
2. Possesses clinical expertise and attributes of a clinical scholar.
3. Advances the scope and practice of nursing through communication, and integration of theory and current research in the delivery of patient care.
4. Serves as a mentor/preceptor and inspires excellence in nursing practice among peers.
5. Enhances the image of nursing.
6. Attains national certification in area of clinical expertise.

Procedure

Nomination for the award must be made by a member of Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large. Materials required are:

1. Letter of nomination
   1. Name of nominee.
   2. Area of clinical practice & expertise.
   3. Present position.
   4. Other honors/recognition received.
   5. Membership & participation in professional organizations.
   6. Statement documenting how the candidate has met three or more of the identified criteria.
2. Two support letters that endorse the nomination & attest to the achievement of the criteria addressed in the nomination letter. Support letters may be written by persons other than Sigma Theta Tau members.
3. Curriculum vitae or resume.

Award Recipient

The decision regarding the recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Practice Award will be made by the Awards Committee.

The recipient will be recognized at the Annual Membership Meeting of Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large in April and presented with a plaque and monetary award.

The deadline for submission of nominations is March 1. Mail letter of nomination, supporting letters and nominee's curriculum vita or resume to:
